Cortina

An American classic!

Cortina is available for Potomac river tours and Sunset Experience tours.

Cortina is a rare, classic Boston Whaler Super Sport Limited.  Boasting beautiful lines and vintage styling,  Cortina is a pleasant, comfortable runabout with plenty of space to lounge about. Barely leaving a wake at speed, she is also a gentleman’s boat. With her low-emissions engine, she moves about gracefully with very little fuss. She comes well equipped with full compliment of safety, navigation and communications equipment. This beautiful boat is named after Juan Cortina, a 19th century folk hero from the American West.

You may see Cortina out on the Potomac river visiting spots such as the Georgetown Waterfront and Old Town Alexandria.  Occasionally, she is used for photography missions for local Sailboat racing.  She is also available for hire for scientific research, academic missions, and general recreational use.

Sonora del Viento (Sonora)

Sonora underway

AVAILABLE NOW!
Sonora Del Viento is a 1975 Bristol sailboat.  She is 30 foot long, and draws 4.5 feet.  She is located in West River, about 40 minutes from Washington D.C.  Sonora is fully equipped for open-water sailing with accommodations for longer-term cruising, such as a galley (boat-word for stove-top and sink) and a head (boat-word for a toilet).  Solar panels power important items such as autopilot, navigation systems, and communication systems.  Sonora is a Halsey Hereschoff design, from an era where seaworthiness of a boat was a design priority.  But true to the designer’s racing heritage, she is still nimble, able to point much higher than her vintage suggests.  With an easy going motion in heavier seas, Sonora is ready to take you on faraway adventures, and get you home safely.  Each trip on Sonora tends to be an educational one, with Captain Jerry giving you knowledge about sailing as well as stories from his travels.

Sonora is available for hire for excursions in the Chesapeake bay, visiting surrounding cities such as St. Michael’s, Baltimore, and Annapolis.  She is also available for shorter day-sails in the West River.  Although all trips on Sonora could be an instructional experience,  dedicated sailing instruction is available as well at the same rate as a day-sail.
